Why Is My Teenager Always Angry Moody And Reactive?

By Paul G Saver

In your parent teenager relationship do you feel ready to explode when you think about how your teenager treats you? Or have you already passed through that emotional space and now find yourself sad and withdrawing?

Whatever the case, spare a moment to take in at least five possible reasons why your teenager has an attitude.

By contemplating about these possible reasons you may decide to "walk a mile in their moccasins" and turn what may seem like a nightmare into a life changing exercise. This has the potential then to transform your parent teenager relationship.

1. Your Teenagers Hormone Factory Is In Full Swing.

With a body that seems like a joke, compared to the ideal bodies paraded on television, your teenager is most likely struggling with a poor self image.

2. Guilt Arising From A Violation Of The Rules.

As a teenager I grew up with the phrase "rules are meant to be broken". That may be the sentiment of your teenager right now. However since all teenagers have a voice of conscience, they come to naturally feel guilty when they go against rules. This has a destabilizing impact on their emotional world.

3. No Clear Purpose Or Direction In Life.

If you were to ask your teenager or your neighbors teenager: "What is the purpose of your life?", how do you think they would answer? Would they answer immediately and with a real passion? My guess would be that the answer would not be immediate and more along the lines of: "I dunno".

4. Fear Of Failure.

Many surveys reveal that so many teenagers feel pressure to succeed. They are constantly bombarded with phrases like "if you don't do well at school, you will end up on the scrap heap". Tragically, it is typical that when a teenager decides that they will probably fail, they experience lowered self esteem, anxiety and mood swings. It has been reported that teenagers sometimes purposely decide to not even try so as to protect their hearts from emotional pain should they fail.

5. Your Teenager Is Presently Suffering from Depression As A Result Of One Or All Of The Above.

If you have a teenager that seems to always be moody, reactive and angry, there are reasons. Your job as a parent is to listen to understand so that you can appreciate and value them. By doing so, you can coach them through a critical time in their life.

In this way, your parent teenager relationship can be a blessing to both of you.
