Building a healthy and vibrant parent teenager relationship is so critical in being able to positively impact your teenager's life. By ignoring this, what you say and do will have little value in the life of your teenager.

Check these ten quick tips to assist you on your path to creating a healthy parent teenager relationship.

1. Celebrate and embrace the changes taking place within your teenager. Don't resist them. Change and growth is critical for the transition of your teenager in becoming a happy, mature, independent and responsible adult.

2. Help your teenager explore healthy ways of taking risks so they can build confidence, self belief and discover the world in a relatively safe way.

3. Allow your teenager to develop their own point of view on issues.

4. Place the highest priority on your parent teenager relationship. Unless your teenager views you as part of their quality world you will not be able to positively impact them.

5. Always keep the lines of communication open, especially on issues such as sex, drugs, religion and politics . Determine to be a parent where your teenager can feel free to consult with.

6. Listen with the intention of understanding your teenager better.

7. Know that your teens behavior is not who they are.

8. Communicate respect of the internal qualities of your teenager. Results are usually the outcome of internal qualities. By focusing on the internal, you assist your teenager to create their own sense of self worth.

9. Realize that younger teenagers (13-15 years) have an emotional need to be able to exercise free thinking. Older teenagers (16-20 years) have an emotional need to discover their own identity and purpose in life. Your parenting should adapt to encourage the fulfillment of these needs.

10. In terms of teenage brain development, boys in particular are less likely to evaluate the consequences of what they are doing and more likely to respond with a gut reaction. Notwithstanding, there is no excuse for breaking curfew or taking excessive risks.

Bear in mind that the changes that occur from the teenage years to adulthood constitute the most dramatic changes that a human being will ever experience.

Your teenager is a walking hormone factory. Their body is undergoing dramatic changes. They have psychological needs related to being able to think for themselves, discover their self identity and purpose in life.

Without a doubt, you the parent of your teenager is the most important and influential person in their life. You can choose to be a part of their problem or you can be part of their solution on their life journey.
