Creative Suggestions For Baby Shower Centerpieces

By Chloe Gib

Baby showers are wonderful and thoughtful methods of welcoming a new baby into the family and assist in providing many essentials a new infant will require. Decorating for such an event is sometimes quite a challenge - shower centerpieces are usually focal points on tabletops, at the sign-in table and in the middle of buffet tables. Using creativity and some simple objects, putting together this decor will be easy and fun.

Diaper cakes are especially effective in the middle of a table. They are usually large and colorful enough to have eye appeal and impact. They can be made by hand or purchased at craft shops and baby boutiques. Use plenty of color and baby items to make them even more delightful - and re-usable. A small diaper cake can also be used at the sign-in table.

Actually using newborn baby gifts as focal points on the table is also very creative. Colorful stacked blocks, jungle-themed stuffed toys and baby dolls dressed in infant clothing makes for interesting and recyclable displays. Larger baby items such as baby baskets, carriers and umbrella strollers can be filled with accessories and placed in the middle of buffet tables for even more eye appeal and impact.

A quick trip to a toy store or discount center can supply you with baby doll furniture which can be utilized in the center of the tables. They can be filled with pacifiers, baby travel supplies, small items of clothing and other baby essentials. A talented florist can arrange pastel flowers which fit perfectly in a toy stroller, crib or walker.

An arrangement can also double as dessert. Arrange pastel cupcakes or mini cakes on an elevated cake plate or cupcake stand. This can be served instead of the customary pastel sheet cakes. It allows the hostess to provide a variety of flavors instead of just chocolate or vanilla cake. Be prepared to offer ice cream as an accompaniment, especially to younger children and those with a sweet tooth.

Tie balloons to toys or stuffed animals and arrange in the middle of each table, at the sign-in area and on the food tables for inexpensive and colorful decor. Personalize the balloons with the name of the baby, parents' names or the details of the shower. Younger guests can take these balloons home at the end of the event for even more fun and enjoyment.

Simple ideas such as these can make baby showers extra memorable. Not only are most of these suggestions for shower centerpieces very inexpensive and easy to assemble, many will also be used again at a later time. The thought and care put into the event will be greatly appreciated by the new mother.
