How to Keep Latchkey Kids Safe

By Mark Mahaffey

There is no doubt about it: parenting is hard in our age of high crime. But what is a parent to do? When a family needs two incomes in order to make ends meet, it is likely that the children will be home alone at least occasionally, because both parents have their own work schedules to follow.

If you among the many parents who has to make the hard decision to leave your children alone during work hours, then you will be glad to know there is something you can do to make the situation better for your children: put in a home alarm system.

The biggest threat to children while they are at home alone is fire and break-ins. If one of these two emergencies rises, they will need help immediately. But if they are alone with no support, they may not make wise decisions, and that could lead to great harm coming to them.

You can make sure they have support by purchasing and installing a home alarm system. If you put in an alarm system with twenty four hour monitoring service, your home (and therefore your children) will be watched over all day and all night.

Since children do not often think logically, they may hesitate to call for help in the event of a fire or attempting break-in while they are at home by themselves. That hesitation may put them in grave danger. But if a monitoring service gets an alert from the alarm system, they can send the proper authorities to the house immediately-even before the children fully realize what is going on!

Consider how wonderful it would be to know that other people are watching out for your children, even when you cannot be at home with them!
