Most Popular Baby Shower Etiquettes

By Leila Mira

Around the globe, mothers have been exercising the tradition of holding a baby shower to welcome the baby. Baby shower is truly a social event more than just gift giving. Some baby shower etiquette has to be observed to make sure you have the perfect party. Dependant upon which country you're from, the etiquettes may vary. Below are some of the normal ones we do. Further information is accessible through Bebo Mia.

1. A baby shower is best celebrated before the new mother gives birth. The dates can vary but normally its 1-2 months before the due date. Fairly recently, some individuals practice holding the baby shower a month or two after the birth. What's good about holding it before the delivery on the other hand is that the mother will not waste money choosing a lot of things for the baby since they are already given as gifts.

2. Typically, a close friend of the new mom hosts the baby party. Although sometimes, they can be the relatives or co-workers.

3. Baby showers are not only for first-born babies but also for subsequent babies. Each pregnancy is a reason to celebrate. There isn't anything wrong with throwing a baby shower to your Second or third child.

4. It is just right to give gifts that are related to the babies. Neutral colors can be chosen for gifts so that it will relate to either a boy or girl. It is best to opt for gifts that can be useful and something that a baby may need everyday like diapers, feeding bottles, bibs and baby blankets.

5. Games are not necessary but it may be a good ice breaker. Conversations, food and drinks are the thing that should be considered. Though not necessary, you can also provide a blank book where the guests can write their personal messages to the mother.

6. Usually, twenty people or more are invited but this will also depend on the number of people that can be accommodated in the venue. Sometimes, they hold a small number before the birth and larger group after the baby is born.

7. The most convenient time to hold a baby shower is during the weekends when people usually don't have work and their children don't have classes. The time may be extended especially if everything is doing well.

8. The expenses are usually paid for by the host.

9. The host's house is usually the venue of the party. The new mom would be informed because a pregnant woman is not fit for surprises.

10. A special invitation card is not required. As an alternative to printing the cards, the host can just purchase greeting cards in bookstores. It will also be a good option to have the invitations sent not less than three weeks before the party. Don't forget to add directions.

11. Though not required, you can include a theme for a party. You can invite the guests' children to wear costumes depending on the theme and it would make the entire celebration much more colorful and fun.

12. It is only right to welcome guests when they come and thank them when they leave. The host ought to be present during the party and should be the one attending at the guests.
