The Wrong Baby Pushchair Can Be More of a Hassle Than Carrying Your Baby in Your Arms All Day

By Maria Andersen

There are so many different things to consider when it comes time to buy your baby's pushchair. With so many options available these days, it can often seem like choosing just the right pushchair is a next to impossible feat. The good news is that with a little help and with some research you can easily figure out which stroller, pram or pushchair is right for you and your baby. The best method is to establish a price range and to make a list of the features you absolutely need before starting your search. Here are some things to think about as you are making these decisions.

Your friends would probably be glad to talk to you about it. You can learn a lot about the various strollers available by talking to other parents, even if your needs aren't the same as theirs. Ask about their stroller, why they bought it, and which other strollers they thought about getting. Find out why they decided against the other strollers they looked at. Ask others about specific strollers that you are thinking about buying to see what people seem to think about them. The information you can get from other parents is invaluable! You must check the pushchair's brake ratings. I can't say this enough, faulty brakes can be a life or death decision that is in your hands. If your wheel brakes unlock or become loose then a strong wind can easily force the stroller into the street or downhill. You also want the brakes on your pushchair to be easy to operate. You don't want to have to go through a whole rigmarole every time you want to set the brakes but you also don't want them to be so easy to operate that they wear out easily. You are going to be using the braking system a lot so give them a quick test before you purchase.

Hand-me-downs are perfect for people who are not ashamed to take one from a relative or friend. You can get anything from a n expensive baby crib to outgrown clothes by accepting hand-me-downs. Of course, some things you will not want to accept, for example, a stroller that is raggedy or has a cracked frame. Imagine what you will do with the few extra hundred of dollars you just saved.

People who travel on public transit will have their own set of needs. Starting to see why it is important to consider where you will be using your pushchair? Some parents walk several miles a week and they will require a sturdier pushchair than others will need. A pushchair that folds easily and unfolds quickly is ideals for those who travel a lot in their cars. A pushchair that is easy to maneuver with and isn't bulky is the ideal stroller to use on public transit.

There are all sorts of criteria by which you can judge the usefulness and worthiness of baby pushchairs. Remember, your needs have to be met by the stroller you purchase. Don't let someone talk you into a stroller because they think it's great. Only buy a stroller if it covers all your needs and requirements!
