It is a widely understood fact that babies are adorable. They get to wear super cute and goofy looking clothes. How many adults do you know that can get away with wearing a clown pattered sweater? Being a baby certainly does not look all that difficult. Many people believe that babies are merely small humans who are fully formed (except that they need to learn how to talk). Babies are actually quite different from adults have their own sets of needs and wants. Here are a few things that you might not already know about babies.
When a baby is born his or her skull plates are not fused. This is one of the main reasons that adults need to be careful when they are holding newborn babies. This is why that space on the back of a newborn's head is called the soft spot and you need to handle it with care or you could do some serious damage to your baby. About three months after your baby is born its skull plates will have started to fuse together and you won't have to be quite so careful with the soft spot at the back of his or her head. You do still need to be careful though because it can take up to eighteen months for the frontal parts of the skull to calcify and harden.
Odd as it might sound, some babies come out with some teeth already in place! Still other babies are born with no hope of having their teeth come in until they hit their first birthdays.
Teething is one of the things new parents dread the most. There is no right age for teething to start so don't start to freak out if it happens "too early" or "takes too long" to start. All babies develop at their own paces and even if your other children started teething at a certain age, there is no guarantee that this baby will do the same.
While most doctors recommend against consuming mercury while a woman is pregnant, eating non mercury forms of fish can be quite healthy. You've probably already had several people, including your doctor, recommend eating salmon because it is mercury free and contain a bunch of other stuff that is good for you and your baby. Some people believe that if you do not eat fish then your children will not have the same high levels of brain function or the same high skills for communication as those children born to women who did eat fish regularly while they are pregnant. This has not yet been proven beyond a doubt so if you do not eat fish, there is no need to panic.
