Getting Ready For The Baby: The Nursery Furniture

By Cheryl James

At one time there was very little thought put into buying baby furniture. All that was needed was a crib and a bureau. Today, the nursery has to be stylish as well as functional, which is why parents spend a lot of time searching for just the right pieces to fit the dcor of the room. The modern furniture for a baby's room is practical and functional and still has a touch of whimsy in the traditional touches of real wood.

Baby cribs are now made so that the crib mattress can be adjusted to three different levels. This function allows the crib to grow with your growing child. Modern baby cribs can also be converted to a toddler bed which not only saves the parents money but, also saves them from having to store the crib.

At one point in time parents typically changed their child's diaper in the crib or on a bed. A wonderful addition to modern baby furniture is a changing table. This is a table with a padded surface on the top for changing diapers and drawers or shelves underneath for additional storage. Crib designers have now designed cribs with a changing table built in to one of the ends of the crib for convenience.

Some parents prefer to use a cradle for the baby when they bring the little one home from the hospital. Some models fit right into the side of the bed so that mommy can easily reach the baby when it wakes during the night. Cradles are also on wheels making it very easy to move them from the bedroom to the living room.

There are also many other types of modern nursery furniture that are based on old fashioned themes. At one time the only bedding available for a baby was a bassinet. There are now bassinets available that resemble the wicker baskets used in Biblical times. This bassinet is called the Moses Wicker Basket and is very easy to carry. A baby can safely sleep in a bassinet until they are able to roll over.

Other items besides the baby crib of interest that are available include baby products specifically made for kids and babies such as storage bins, table and chair sets, toy boxes, clothes trees, and much more. When your child outgrows their toddler bed, then can then easily transition to a larger beds that becomes complete with the addition of unique bedding to complete the look.
