The decision of whether or not to attend college may not be an easy one. Some young adults may wish to immediately enter the work force after college, or attend a trade school. Yet many college students feel that the benefits of attending college are worth it.
I recently met a high school senior who was not planning to attend college. He doubted whether or not he really needed to attend college. Luckily, he did decide to attend college and is doing very well.
There are many jobs that do not require college degrees, however these jobs usually do not offer the same promotion potential as careers that require college degrees. Without a college degree, you may find yourself stuck in a low-paying job, with few other prospects.
But college is not all about earning more money. College offers an opportunity to discover your talents, interests, and passions in a learning environment. Learning to work in teams is another advantage of many college courses.
Many employers view college graduates as more trustworthy than their non-degreed counterparts. Perhaps this is because they have already proven their commitment to a long and challenging process. In any case, employers value trustworthiness in their employees.
Employers know that college graduates have already demonstrated the ability to make it through rough times and that they have the intestinal fortitude to stick it out when times get tough. A college degree shows them that you can handle anything.
Without a college education, career options may be limited to serving those who do have college degrees - which is absolutely fine if this is your sincere desire, but what a shame to wake up 20 years later and realize it is not!
College can make all the different in your future, and in the future lifestyle of your family. As a college student myself, I must urge you to take advantage of any opportunity you are given to earn a college degree!
