Learn Something About 4D Sonogram

By Marissa Velazquez

4D sonogram or four dimensional ultrasound is an improved version of 3D ultrasound, because it shows the image of a fetus in a real time, without any delay. This technology is especially useful for early detection of possible irregularities in fetus development. If performed by educated and experienced physician, this technique doesn't cause any trauma to baby or its mother.

The basic operating principle of the three dimensional ultrasound is to create a large number of two dimensional images. All these images are made from different angles. When they are put together, it is possible to see the image in all three dimensions. This way the physician is able to see different two dimensional plates in rotations.

When you add an additional dimension, the time, you get the 4D sonogram. Thanks to sophisticated and improved technology, the image now can be seen in a real time, without characteristic delay. It means you can see the fetus as it moves, from different angles. This is a significant improvement when it comes to diagnostic evaluations.

It is easier to see a fetal age, sex or size. But the most important thing is that this technology allows physicians to clearly notice all possible problems that can be related to placental and fetal abnormalities. All similar problems can be evaluated with much higher accuracy.

Abnormal or high risk pregnancies are much easier to detect. In case some structural problems with uterus appear, or in case of ectopic pregnancies, timely diagnostic might be crucial. Of course, it's necessary to be adequately educated to perform this type of an examination, and only highly experienced experts are able to diagnose possible problems.

The best period for making very clear and detailed images of a fetus is the one between the twenty sixth and thirty second week. The fetus is now perfectly formed and usually active, and videos made in this period can be really something special. After that, a fetus usually change its position, and it takes longer time to make a good video. Many people love the idea of making the video, but it has to be made properly.

Some people are very interested to see their unborn babies. Keepsake ultrasounds are mostly elective ultrasounds made to provide an opportunity for mothers and fathers to see their unborn children. This really is a wonderful thing, yes, and can have many positive effects on women. Anyway, it isn't advisable to make such examinations before 17 weeks. The fetus simply isn't developed enough.

If you would like to determine the sex of the fetus, it is good to know that that cannot be done with high accuracy until the fetus is at least sixteen weeks old. Although some facilities perform this type of scanning earlier, the accuracy at earlier gestational age is questionable. Medical centers mostly advise it before 20 weeks, unless there is a medical reason for it.

There were several studies about the impact of this scanning of fetal development. No harmful effects were noticed, but you should still be aware of this possibility. This procedure does rise temperature and creates sort of mechanical vibrations. If the procedure lasts too long, in order of getting clearer and more interesting video, it might have some consequences. Make sure to use 4D sonogram and other helpful technologies wisely.
