The Most Advanced 3D Ultrasound Topeka Has In Store

By Katrina Wheeler

3D ultrasound Topeka is one of the most exciting paths for parents to walk down in the journey to meeting their new baby. This revolutionary technique allows eager families and expectant mothers to see a realistic image of the unborn baby and hear its heartbeat accurately.

3D ultrasound is a technique used by medical professionals to view and monitor an unborn fetus during pregnancy. Obstetric ultrasonography is the term used to describe the medical sonogram used to monitor this unborn fetus. A three dimensional image is projected onto a monitor for viewing.

It was first developed in 1987 and technology has advanced a lot since then. When an sonogram is taken, sound waves are bounced onto the fetus and straight back. In a 3D ultrasound these sound waves are projected at different angles and reflect back. These returning echoes are then processed by advanced computer technology and an image is constructed of what the fetus looks like internally and externally. These reconstructed images allow height, width and depth to be seen.

Medical professionals debate the use of 3D scans for non medical use such as sex determination. Tests have been mostly inconclusive as far as the effects of the ultrasound on the fetus go. Studies show that the fetus could be affected negatively with prolonged exposure, frequency or intensity to sonogram waves. In India it is illegal to use 3D ultrasound technology to determine only the sex of the baby. Indian natives prefer baby boys to baby girls. The revelation of the sex could result in abortions when the parents find out that the fetus is female.

According to research done on animals it has been suggested that reduced fetal weight, neurological changes and development impairing may occur when over exposure to the scans occur. The risks involved would depend on how long the fetus was exposed, the intensity of this exposure and the frequency of the exposure.

One of the problems with 3D ultrasounds is the false sense of security it could bring. This occurs largely in financially troubled clients who often don't have the proper medical and prenatal care needed. When the scan results are explained and the good news comes that everything is right on track with the baby they often neglect their prenatal routine. This could mean anything from not going for further checkups, not taking prenatal vitamins and being careless. Scan centers should stress heavily that the scan results are no substitute for prenatal care.

Recent developments in technology have meant that the world of 3D ultrasounds, which was largely reserved for first world countries, has started to become an option in rural areas in all parts of the world. Raw data is collected at the rural point and is sent via mobile links to a central processing station where the images are obtained. This opens a whole new world of medicine for poor countries.

The scans are usually visualized onto screens at the consultation while the imagery is explained. Most centers also offer their customers a photo of the scan. DVDs and internet links of entire scans are often offered. 3D ultrasound Topeka has some of the most advanced technology in the field and are trusted to offer a professional sonogram service.
